Yakuza 3 follows the story of Kazuma Kiryu, known in the ficticious town of Kamurocho, and in the underground world of this ficticious universe japan, as "The Dragon of Dojima", right after the end of Yakuza 2.

officer Sayama leaves for the united states, and Kazuma moves to Okinawa with haruka to manage an orphanage tied to the Sunflower orphanage, after convincing Majima to re-join the Tojo clan to keep an eye in the novice sixth chairman, Daigo Dojima.

A year later they start receiving Eviction notices from the Ryudo family, who own the land deed of the orphanage. After coming to terms and meeting their boss and his daughter, Kazuma is explained that there is a higher power pushing for ownership of the land surrounding the orphanage.

Shortly after, the Ryudo boss is shot and sent to the hospital, the culprit is identified by his daughter as a middle aged man resembling the very image of Shintaro Fuma, Kazumas foster father and ex-yakuza.

And so Kazuma heads for Kamurocho again, leaving the orphanage in the hands of Haruka and the Ryudo family members, to find out who is the man in the picture.
