Confessions of an introvert?

There are quite a few people here that blog very personal things about their lives. I find it curious that they are able to do that. I don't think this is something I am comfortable doing. Heck, sometimes I'm not even comfortable reading some of it, even the touching stuff. It just seems so overwhelmingly private, which is the point I guess. While I admire a few of the people whose blogs are rather detailed, I don't think I'll ever be comfortable hopping on the trend. For better or worse, this is what you get: The public me, and maybe a glimpse or two. Because I'm social, but I'm a bloody introvert.

Whatever you are comfortable with mate, it's your blog after all. Speaking for myself I find it relatively easy to comment on personal issues while I sit here behind an avvy, a random user name and an IP address that puts me a continent away. I'm pretty sure you will find some people who are able to share personal moments from their lives online would be overcome with shyness and struck dumb if they tried to do the same in person. Gives people an extra outlet to vent, share, praise or condemn if they need it.

No I would not want to share really personal details of my life in so public a forum either but maybe that is my loss. I imagine it must be quite cathartic to speak freely about the things that do or have troubled us in our lives, a way to exercise some old demons. I am very happy to share general details about my life but the very personal stuff is for me and only those who I have a personal connection with. I think the close knit nature of the community here helps to make this kind of opening up possible. I wish I had the courage to take advantage of the compassion and understanding that is shown to people on a daily basis on this site, but I don’t have.

What I am shocked at, are YouTube comment confessionals. It is almost impossible to find a video that does not have someone in the comments section spilling the most personal and usually painful moments of their life for a whole world of people who really are strangers. I don’t use text speak so this probably already exists but if it doesn’t then it should, ‘ICN’ that would stand for ‘I’m Crying Now’ because there is always someone who seems to be crying! If I ever find myself typing and my fingers start getting splashed with big salty tears, (it won’t happen, I am manly and British, a slight tremble of the bottom lip is all I would allow myself) I know I need to step away from the keyboard; but if it did happen, I wouldn’t type out ICN.

I just really suck at hanging out my laundry in public. I just can't do it.

I'm the same not to comfortable opening up,but sometimes wish i could, don't blame those that do it's there choice,i have made mistakes of giving away my location, which i think think about it,but then i think don't fret about it,just the nature of your personal beast.
Safety is a concern for many online. I've considered this myself when getting to know people. It's sad that we live in a world where we have to guard our personal info (name, location, etc), isn't it? With so much crime (and gads I dunno if I want to even open the stalker or bullying issues here) I guess it only makes sense to be cautious with your personal details. Sad though, huh? :(

You have such a nice personality...might I suggest this as a new Avatar???
Wow, speaking of bullying, there it is.
Did you remove the avatar of Medusa you originally put up?

Fellow introvert reporting for duty!
I thought I'd never find you! Welcome! (Now don't you leave me alone with these loud people, they can be quite scary, yes? lol)
*Rolls himself into a ball and hides in the corner*
*cries*

I once killed a bunch of people. There.....I said it....it feels good.
Many a time I have killed someone's illusion that they are, indeed, the shiniest toaster on the internet. And I'm not sorry. There. I said it. And yes, it feels good.

Me nothing to hide and not scared of sharing my personal stuff. That's just me.smile I will probably never meet any one of you'all (hope no one is a Fed)funk, so what is the problem. Some peeps are open and some are shy. This makes us human I guess. Well, moving along to some more fun and thank you GenX5993 for sharing (see, you did it with out knowing it).lol
"Me nothing to hide and not scared of sharing my personal stuff."

I'm not hiding anything, nor am I afraid. Although I will say that the internet is a big place that doesn't forget, and redefines "public" as anyone and everyone can have access to whatever you put out here, for whatever purposes. Perhaps that deserves pause and caution.
"I will probably never meet any one of you'all "
Is that the criteria for sharing: I'll never meet ya, so here's my guts? Followed by your fear someone might be a Fed and suddenly having something to hide, this is an interesting turn from you.
"so what is the problem. "

I don't recall stating there IS a problem. I believe I simply expressed my point of view (that it was not something I wish to indulge in). But that's another interesting assumption you make.
"thank you GenX512 for sharing (see, you did it with out knowing it)."

I think I "realized I was sharing" this blog post when I created and chose to post it. But (and this is my point, so pay keen attention this time) this blog post isn't about my personal, private life.

We now return you to regularly scheduled programme.
I wanted to give you a comeback, but all I can say is WOW! I didn't intend to insult you or your feelings. I would have appreciated a PM first, but it is already out there for everyone to see. I stand corrected and again I was being general (and trying to be a little funny too), but you didn't take it that way. Again, accept my apologizes!

I'm not insulted. But I think it might have been prudent to take your own advice and ask me first instead of assuming it. Given the nature of your reaction, I think I would have appreciated a PM on this one first as well, so again your own advice might have been good to follow here. I simply addressed what you put out there.
You just made another questi...emark on my next blog entry. You did not PM me, as you said you would have appreciated and advised as the best course of action, so I've now sent you one. If there's a problem you can use that venue as your venue of choice.

I think this accurately sums up my mindset.

don't know what to say, I don't blog personal stuffs because as I said I have a lot of heat on me.
I just really suck at hanging out my laundry in public. I just can't do it.

KAT is a special place where we can generally trust not to be flamed or ridiculed for sharing things about ourselves. We give respect and get it in return. I can't even read IMDB movie reviews because it seems all reviews are attacked at a personal level and the people there are vicious. Plus, KAT is anonymous..I wouldn't recommend sharing deep personal experiences on a social site where your identity is known or can be easily figured out.
.
If you are concerned about your privacy, never post links to your gaming handle, facebook account, flickr account, photobucket, etc because those things reveal your true identity.
.
Most importantly, I hope you are not using the handle GenX at other public sites because it's easy to connect the dots back to KAT.

Different strokes for different folks, wouldn't the world be boring if we were all the same? Perhaps you're mistaking being an introvert for someone who has a certain degree of dignity? I've read some blogs, not worth the bits & bytes they are written on so you have nothing to worry about.smile

Upon reflection, maybe you're right.
