What is the Second Amendment?

I am curious as to what people believe the Second Amendment is actually about.

In gun magazines and on the news (no matter what channel), I always see people shouting, screaming and being violent because they want stricter gun control.

Is extreme gun control a good thing?
I haven't a clue.

I'm sure there are some gun shops that sell guns to criminals at extremely low prices (under the counter), and those places need to be put out of business permanently.

I was always taught that the second amendment was about protecting yourself, your family, your home and in some cases your country (if invaded).

Since times have changed, is the second amendment something that's still needed anymore?
All I know is that there are a lot more good and honest citizens than there are cops and bad-guys, but don't misunderstand, that doesn't mean everyone should have guns.

Whenever someone talks about how some countries have gun bans, I think about Japan and how the Yakuza and hardcore criminals have guns while a good and honorable citizen cannot protect themselves or their business with the same tools.

It also reminds me about how Hitler took all the guns away from the citizens, gave them to the army and had the army point those same guns back at the citizens. Allowing him to literally take control of Germany and start the Holocaust.

So here are my many questions:
What does the second amendment mean to you?
Is extreme gun control good?
Should America abolish the second amendment?

Is History important?

I never liked the subject of History until I graduated high school.

There are a lot of things I never knew.
In school I always dreaded History because it was always so negative. Everything in the books always said the government was bad, not necessarily the people.
Some good things like Columbus discovering the Americas was clouded by the constant reminder of how he slaughtered American Indians for his own pleasure.

In History we never really learned about America declaring independence, we never read it nor the constitution and try to figure out what they meant and stood for.

Some things like the Holodomor and Mao's food redistribution plans were completed omitted from history books.
--For those who don't know, Holodomor literally translates to: murder by hunger. Stalin did a food redistribution program literally killing 10 million Ukrainians in one year, and making the survivors resort to cannibalism.
--Mao's food redistribution program killed about 75 million Chinese in 4 years, that was 10% of the population at that time.

Although I complain about history being so dark and sad, I do believe history is doomed to repeat itself if the people do not remember the past.

The reason I started to like history was because I started to learn about the American constitution and how things were worded and meant back then.
I was impressed by how the Founding Fathers knew they were imperfect people trying to make something never seen or done before.

So the question still remains, is history important?
How would you convey history if you were to teach it?

Declaration of Independence

For some this blog may be the first time some Americans have read the Declaration of Independence document.
This stuff unfortunately isn't shown or read in public schools... or at least not the ones I attended.

I recommend people reading this once or twice a year and having a copy of the document framed and hung on their walls.

When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Angry America

In the past year and a half I have seen and experienced the darker side of my great country.

It seems almost as if the world is on fire and it seems it had reached my backyard before I even knew it was coming.

In the past year and a half I have faced discrimination, been assaulted numerous times, falsely accused in court, bullied, had guns pointed at me and received numerous death threats.

So this year I bought a gun and nothing has happened much since.

My question is: Why is America so angry? And are they right to be angry?

-NOTE: I'm curious as to what people from other countries think is happening.

Is Critical Thinking important?

When I was in High School 4 years ago, I didn't have a clue what critical thinking was or what comprehensive reading was for that matter.

I remember in high school how the other students would often think: "Agree with me or I hurt you."
Sounds kind of like what terrorists say, "Agree to join my religion or I kill you."

The school was a normal Suburban high school with not much violence.
In my senior year, there were more fights that year than the last 3 combined.

In high school I wasn't able to construct good arguments, I wouldn't consider other sides or look up definitions in a dictionary if there was a word I didn't know.
Only until I attended a university course did I figure out what Critical Thinking was and how to use it.

Is this something that should be taught in high school?

The reason I'm making a blog about this is because I had a discussion with another user here at KAT and he or she is unable to make a constructive argument. So far this person has proven to disregard 95% of contents of my private messages and only replies to something they like.
In the course of our discussion this person has yet to give any reason for supporting any argument and this person has yet to actively construct their own argument.

So my question is, Critical Thinking really that important?
High schools don't teach it, users here at KAT don't really have it, so what is the its use?
