yes. Forever tv show was awesome like this. But those idiots cancelled it. Hope that will not happen to our show. I think this show will go until five or more seasons. biggrin

I liked Forever too, but it seemed like they knew it the end was coming the way they wrapped up most of the loose ends in one season. lol.
.
I am really liking this show, but I really wonder how long this run will be. I am worried that they can never be as creative as they are with this Fsociety vs Evil Corp storyline they have going on. And I would say, maybe they can string out this storyline for a second season...but I wouldn't like that, I want the answers NOW! :D
.
And I really, really hope this isn't a Fight Club thing where it's inside his head.facepalm

Those rocks looked sharp!image

ikr! I'm going to be so pissed if next episode starts and nothing happened. lol.
.
It was a really good episode, I do hope they can keep up the standard. I am intrigued, I am hooked, I am entertained. I am not yet invested in the characters but it shouldn't be too long for that.
.
I will say that the ending of the first episode and beginning of the new one was such a huge tease. lol. I understand what the douche from Evil Corp was saying, but it was a little over the top (re: WAY over the top :D) for him going about it like that.

It looks like the injury was legit.
.
Picture of Aldo's rib
.
I don't think it changes what the next two fights in the weight class should be, so whether they keep it as a fight for the interim belt (which I am now thinking it shouldn't be) or just a regular fight, it shouldn't matter.
.
As a clarification, I am meaning that the winner of Mendes/McGregor should take on Aldo next, regardless of whether their fight is for a belt or not.

Other than Rhonda Rousey and Jon Jones (when he was fighting) who elevates their division as the champ?

Yeah, I didn't explain my point too clearly, but basically what it was is pretty much what you said. Rousey dominates her division and is able to bring viewers in with more than just her skill. Jones, same thing, dominates his division and had a personality to back it up. Aldo....you don't get that, and this from a man who has defended his title, like what, 8 times?!?
.
The other divisions have had more of a revolving door at the top of their divisions, so you don't really expect them to build the kind of traction and hype that someone who has DEFENDED his belt so many times should. I was shocked frankly that he has had so many title defenses. Outside of the MMA fans, I doubt you could have had any name recognition for Aldo like you would a Rousey or a Jones. That is really sad for a "champion" who has defended so many times.
.
But he has name recognition now...thanks to McGregor. :D
.
As to the injury, I thought he was cleared to fight? I'm not sure, because I didn't read it myself, I might have just been going off what Dana said. lol.
.
Under about 170lbs is small? Most guys at 170 would probably be 180-190 walking around, average about 5'10" - 6' if I was picking average size of a normal Joe in the street would be that size, thats just a guess though. How big are you?titter

Yeah, I'm a fat f**k. lol. 5'8" and about 280lbs.shocked I don't love my gut, but I love the power I feel! Embarrassing when trying to get on a ride at Disney, but awesome when bringing in the all the groceries in one trip.rofl
.
And yeah, 170 is awesome! I love to watch welterweights fight. Once you get down to the lightweights, which I think is the next one down, they are what...150lbs? dull C'mon man, I was 150 in grade 9! dizzylol So not really entertaining for me. smile
.
And Machida? Certainly cant see him ever fighting for a title again. Maybe matching up with Bisping at some stage?

I know this is going to come across as more Machida hate, but he is no longer an entertaining fighter, at least I don't think so. There are counter strikers and then there is Machida, who hits and then backs up...and backs up.....and backs up. That's not fighting to me. And if he isn't going to fight for a title anymore (and he shouldn't), then why fight?
.
Is his name still a big enough draw to put butts in the seats? I am seriously asking, because I may not be the most impartial person when it comes to gauging Machida. titter
.
I know we don't have any UFC this weekend, as far as events go. I don't think Bellator has either, not until July 17th. We are just coming off of their 139 Kongo vs Volkov facepalm.
.
WSOF next main event is August 1st WSOF 22, and it's one that I am definitely going to watch! I am huge Palhares fan! Palhares vs Jake Shields for the Welterweight title! Marlon Moraes vs Sheymon Moraes for the Bantamweight title and Tyrone Spong vs Mike Kyle at Light Heavyweight! I actually think WSOF has something going on July 11th too, but not sure, I don't follow them as closely.
.
Don't forget to get in on the Pick 'Em. AldoMendes vs McGregor!

Yeah for sure you are right im no aficionado just a UFC fan caught up in the hype! Im just not surprised hes got the shot though thats all i meant seeing as Aldo's beat everyone else, McGregors unbeaten in UFC (albeit not against high ranked fighters) and the hype that surrounds him makes it very lucrative for UFC. Im not a blind McGregor fan though, he should not be favourite and for sure should never have been favourite against Aldo. These guys have been there and done it, whereas McGregor hasnt

Yay Smity23.48K ! Welcome to the dark side MMA Thread! I agree with you about McGregor, though I think you and I might be the only ones outside of Ireland who are cheering for him. :D

I wanted to quote all the above posts, but for some reason I couldn't, so I will just address them all and you all know which ones I am talking about. lol.
.
If it's true what Dana was saying about Aldo pulling out of 5 previous fights, then I have no problem with this fight being an interim title fight. ESPECIALLY as Aldo was cleared to fight, but chooses not to. No champ does that, no real champ at any rate. I am sure if this was the first or second time, then Dana wouldn't have made this a title match. You can't give the benefit of the doubt to someone who has burned you 5 times before. This one hurts in particular because of all the hype it has gotten.
.
Which brings me to McGregor. I don't really have any feeling for him one way or the other, because I have said in previous posts anything under like Welterweight ranking is tantamount to having my little brothers fighting, but he has done for the division what their "champ" has failed to do and that is bring it worldwide notice! Not just for us MMA fans but for casual fans and people who didn't even know they were fans till McGregor drew attention to the sport and the division. It even got me hyped to see the fight. lol.
.
I am glad that it's Mendes/McGregor though. Just too many excuses lay open no matter which way the fight went if Aldo fought. Let him get "healthy" and then he can take on the winner and tap out in the 3rd round...oops, wrong division.chuckle
.
And I would much rather see Aldo/McGregor next (assuming McGregor wins). Aldo has already decisioned Edgar a couple of years ago, and decisioned Mendes, albeit an awesome fight, so let him take on someone whom he hasn't before.
.
I actually think this worked out better for the fans. Mendes seems to be a better fit for an exciting fight vs McGregor. I expect a lot more stand up. AND it is going to be like a #1 contender fight which I know some fans were clamoring for.
.
I also updated the Pick 'Em roster, and for those who already made their picks, please don't forget to go back and change Aldo to Mendes. lol

Okay it's been two days and if you haven't seen the Machida/Romero fight by now, too frickin' bad! lol.
.
I LOVE IT!!! I think Romero just became my new favourite fighter. Oh, I can't tell you how much I enjoyed watching Machida get his face pounded in. XD If you can't tell, I can't stand Machida and I hope this is his signal to retire and go teach his chicken-shite-do or whatever crap he is calling his style.swearpunchevil
.
Now could Romero take out Weidman....at this point I would have to say "no". Not that I am a Weidman fan, but Weidman just seems to be such a good study of his opponents...he just keeps winning. (shrugs)
.
I am a HUGE Herb Dean fan, and I think he is the best ref in the business today. That being said, I think he could have stopped that Larkin fight a lot sooner. I know you want to give the fighter a chance to fight as this is their living, but Ponzi was out a lot sooner than his body let him know. lol.
.
I called that head kick in the Santos fight. I didn't expect it to knock out Bosse, but he was holding his right arm so low, he was practically inviting it. I was watching it with my 6 year old and I told her "watch this kick coming" and BAM KTFO of Bosse. lol. Props to Santos for not following up on the ground with any extra punishment.
.
The Makashvilli/Dias fight looked more like Sumo Wrestling with skinny people than a MMA fight. titter Even though Dias had the take downs, I though Makash had the more active fight and I actually thought he won. Either way it was "meh" for me.
.
I actually had to look up the fight I knew I missed commenting on, and that was the "truck" vs Carlos Jr. Usually fights that end in subs are exciting, but that was sort of meh to me as well. So much so, that I forgot about it. lol.
.
I don't think we have anything before the Aldo/McGregor fight, at least as far as the UFC is concerned. I gotta check Bellator. And I am just putting this out there, I am taking McGregor. lol

Sorry I didn't get another one in for June, but July will be very busy. :)
.
Here is the Pick 'Em for UFC 189 Aldo (?) vs McGregor UFC 189 Pick 'Em (July 11th)

UFC 188 Pick 'Em CLOSED/TOTALED
Since Pringlescan22.82K is taking a time out, I thought I would keep the Pick 'Em going...or at least try to. :)
.
Rules are going to be basically the same: Pringlescan Pick 'Em Rules.
.
If you are too lazy to click over (like I am :D), then here is the basic, BASIC, rules:

 toggle spoiler
-5 points for picking the winner, round, and how they won
-3 points for picking two of the above three
-1 point for picking one of the above, above three.

EXAMPLE: If you choose Fighter X, Round 2, via Submission, and Fighter Y wins in Round 2 with a Sub, you get.....3 points.

.
Just a couple of slight changes which I think will make the game easier to play.
.
1) I think the choices and results possible are diverse enough, especially as we are including not only the main card, but the prelims as well, to not need to choose FOTN or the kind of sub.
.
2)This is more of a clarification, if someone choose fighter x over fighter y by decision, they get the full 5 points if correct, not just 3 for picking winner and how they won.
.
How to play is basically just copy and paste the fight card below, then signify your picks in one of two ways:

 toggle spoiler
BOLD your choice and add the round and the how at the end;
e.g. Ken Shamrock vs Kimbo Slice Rd 1, Sub
or
Type it in BOLD at the end of the fight line;
e.g. Ken Shamrock vs Kimbo Slice (Shamrock, Rd 1, Sub)

The important thing is to get your picks in BOLD. :)

.
Once you get your picks in, if you want to change them, just please edit your post. Also feel free to edit your posts up until fight time, but in the spirit of fairness, please try and make your edits at least an hour before the fights start, if not longer.
.
If for whatever reason a fighter has to be replaced at the last minute, that is the day of the fight, everyone will get a full 5 points for that fight regardless of whom they chose. If a fight needs to be canceled, well no one gets any points for a fight that never happened. ;-P
.
With that being said, let's get on to 189! (The hyperlinked (i) is a link to the Wiki page of that person, unless I couldn't find it, in which case it is a link to their UFC Fighter page. Just in case you want a little more info before making your pick :))
.
Main Card
Chad Mendes (i) vs Conor McGregor(i)
Robbie Lawler (i) vs Rory MacDonald (i)
Dennis Bermudez (i) vs Jeremy Stephens (i)
Gunnar Nelson (i) vs Brandon Thatch (i)

Prelims

Mike Swick (i) vs Alex Garcia (i)
Cathal Pendred (i) vs John Howard (i)
